Former Clay Cup Champions Win Big

6/26/09

With the Clay Cup nationals less than a month away, two former Clay Cup champions made their presence felt on Les Schwab night at Deming Speedway. In the Speedmart PMP 600s, reigning Clay Cup champ Logan Forler wired the field on his way to his first victory of 2009. Forler, who has been running 360 sprints weekly in the Northwest, took off from his outside pole position and comfortably led all 25 laps of the feature. Second went to Dustin O’Brien who also set quick time. Third was Kyle Johnson. Heat race wins went to Larry Jenne, Shaun Holtorf, Garrett Johnson and Forler. Brandon Benson won the B main and raced his way to 4th in the A.

2007 Clay Cup champion Aaron Fell brought home his second win of 2009 in the Advanced Sprint Car & Toys for Trucks 1200s. After clearing Brent Holloway in what was a great race for second, Fell set sail for race leader Brock Lemley. On the 9th lap, Lemley got caught up in a minor spin out in lapped traffic, costing him the lead and sending him to the back of the pack. Fell inherited the lead and took his second victory of the season comfortably over Eric Drake and Brent Holloway. Fell was also quick time on the night. Heat race wins went to Drake and Wade Spreckelmeyer.

Hayden Schmidt made it look easy in the Triple X Race Co 600 restricted class. Scooting out to an early lead, Schmidt led all 25 laps without challenge to bring home his second main win of the season. Rece Goetz battled his way to second with Cody Broulett bringing up third. Heat wins went to Madison Hess and Alex Schaffert. Fast time went to Tyler Anderson.

Austin Smith won his second main of the season in the 250 class. Kyle Johnson led the first six laps before pulling into the infield, handling the lead to smith who was charging hard. Smith led the field to the checkered flags at 15 to score win number of his season. Second was Josh McCort, third Jared Gunderson. Johnson was quick time. Heats went to Jake Little and Leslie Davies.

Spencer Constance also won his second main of 2009, leading all 15 laps of the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprint feature. He was followed by Reece Wickard in second and Isaac Abenroth in third. Constance also won his heat. Logan Holland won the other heat. Robie Price was fast time.

Deming Speedway’s mid season champions lead off a double dip race weekend, starting next Friday night. After the great racing action, settle in for the huge Hawley’s Fireworks Extravaganza! Then on Saturday, Deming Speedway goes non-wing for the first and only time in 2009.
