Whitney Brothers Win at Deming Speedway

Everson, WA – The first of two straight nights of racing at Deming Speedway to benefit the Mt Baker Athletic and Academic Fund kicked off Friday night with the Whitney brothers, Jayden and Chase, winning main events in their respective divisions. Derek Holmwood and Zoey Tupper also took wins on the night. 

Chase Whitney pulled off his second straight clean sweep in the Clean Crawls JR Sprints. He led all twenty laps of the main event and was also fast time and the fast qualifier. Cooper Anderson and McKenna Morgan were second and third. Anderson won the second heat race. 

With little brother Chase already having a win on the night, the pressure was on Jayden to bring home another win in the Speedmart 600 Open class. From the pole position, Jayden would answer the call, leading all twenty five laps of the main event to join Chase in victory lane on the night. Colin Mackey raced his way into second and Levi Kuntz was third. Heat wins went to Kuntz and Ryley Mayer. 

While Derek Holmwood ended up in victory lane for the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 class, it was almost not to be. Jacob Buckenmeyer had worked his way forward on the field and into second place with Holmwood ahead of him working through slower traffic when opportunity knocked – one of the slower cars ahead of Derek slowed slightly, making Holmwood slow a bit and giving Jacob a lane on the low side to drive underneath Derek and take the lead as the pair completed lap 23. Unfortunately for Buckenmeyer, a quick caution flag flew and with the entirety of the field having not finished the 23rd lap, the running order reverted to lap 22, giving Holmwood the lead back. Derek would lead the restart and the rest of the way for the win over Buckenmeyer and Tyson Cross. 

In the Mytrafficman.NET 600 Restricted division, Zoey Tupper collected her first career victory. Tupper passed race leader Dustin Ramsey on the inside of turn number one as the pair came into slower traffic on lap 14, and survived multiple restarts afterwards in getting her first win. Mallory Fisher pressured Zoey late but ended up second with Ramsey taking third. Caleb Gately, Tupper, Diane Knutzen and Avery Touchette won the heat races,
