Schlotfeldt, Holmwood, Hillier & Knapp Win

4/15/22

Everson, WA – With frigid temps and mois track conditions, drivers at Deming Speedway faced a tough challenge on Friday night. With action sponsored by The Welcome Store and Jim’s Automotive Experts, winners on the night were Jesse Schlotfeldt, Derek Holmwood, Levi Hillier and Colton Knapp.

When early race leader Parker Hadlock spun out on lap six, the Speedmart 600 Open main event got really intense as Colin Mackey led Jesse Schltofeldt and Levi Kuntz to the restart. Schlotfeldt found a lane inside Mackey heading into turn one right away, forcing Colin higher into the turn than he expected. Schlotfeldt nosed ahead to lead the lap, but Mackey rallied back on the highside to lead lap seven. Unable to close the door to the bottom, Mackey again ended up higher through turns one and two than he wanted as Schlotfeldt pulled back even through the first two turns and retook the lead on lap eight. That ended up being the race winning pass, as Mackey slipped behind Kunts shortly thereafter. While Levi was fast, he would never pull even with Schlotfeldt as Jesse secured his first Deming Speedway win in a couple of years, and his first for car owner Phil Perkins. Kuntz and Mackey filled out the podium. Mackey, Dylan Resch and Spencer Constance won the heats.

The Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 Main also saw a fantastic battle for the lead. Dakota Drake led the first 17 laps of the main with Derek Holmwood making life hard for her in every corner. On lap 18 Holmwood pulled even with Dakota on the outside of the track and beat her to the transponder loop by mere hundreths of a second. The pair would stay side by side for the next couple of circuits before a red flag hit. Under the red, Drake retired to the pits, giving Holmwood a clear path to victory that he made use of in taking his first win of the year. Brock Lemley was second and Seth Hespe was third. Drake and Jared Gundersen won the heats.

The Mytrafficman.NET 600 Restricted main event was dominated by Levi Hillier, who led all 25 laps without challenge for his first win of the year. The battle for second was intense all race long, with David Greene eventually coming out on top over Corbin Ramsey. Ramsey was a heat race winner, as was Avery Askvig and Carson Guffie.

For the second straight week, Colton Knapp was your winner in the Clean Crawls Junior Sprints. Knapp led all 20 laps, fending off strong challenges from the drivers behind him in taking his second win. McKenna Morgan ended up in second and Sawyer Baxter ran third. The three podium finishers were also your heat race winners.
