Peterson Wins Second Straight

8/13/21

Everson, WA – Smoke filled the skies at Deming Speedway making for a muggy Friday night of racing. In action on the track, Jared Peterson won his second main event in a row and was joined in victory lane by Derek Holmwood, Carson Guffie and Jayce Medcalf.

The front four spots in the Speedmart 600 Open Main Event were highly contested all race long, with Dakota Drake setting the pace and Blaine Granberg, Parker Hadlock and Peterson keeping within close distance. Granberg kept pressure on Drake and on lap 17 managed to pass her for the lead before a yellow came out and with the running order reverting to the last completed lap, Drake retook the lead. On the restart, Peterson worked up to and past Granberg, setting himself into second before another yellow flag flew. On the restart, Peterson powered to the outside of Drake and nipped her at the line for the lead by hundredths of a second, then kept his momentum up around the highside of the track to secure the lead for good, collecting his second win in a row. Drake grabbed second with Granberg taking third. Heat winners were Granberg and Ryley Mayer.

For the 8th time in 2021, Derek Holmwood came away with the win in the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 class. Holmwood powered by Seth Hespe on the inside groove on lap 11 to secure the top spot and eventual victory, with a margin of victory close to four seconds. Hespe would take second with Greg Hamilton running third. Hespe and Alex Lewis won the heats.

The first career win for Carson Guffie in the Mytrafficman.NET 600 Restricted class came in epic fashion, as the young driver put a whoopin’ on the field. Guffie would win the main event by half a track, a gap of over 6 seconds at the drop of the checkered flag that has not been equaled all year. Mallory Fisher came out on top of the fierce battle for second with Corbin Ramsey running third. Ramsey, Axel Oudman and Fisher won the heat races.

For the second week in a row, Jayce Medcalf drove to the win in the Clean Crawls JR Sprints. Medcalf used the high groove to work around Sawyer Baxter on lap nine and was not challenged thereafter in getting the win. Avery Askvig worked her way to second with Baxter taking third. Baxter was also a heat winner as was Ryan Bright.
