Peterson Scores 600 Win

7/24/20

Everson, WA – With Clay Cup in the rear view mirror, weekly racing resumed at Deming Speedway on Friday night with another pay per view broadcast on Dirtovaltv.com. Jared Peterson won the main event of the evening in the Speedmart 600 Open class, and was joined by Clennon Holloway, Chance Crum, Levi Kuntz and Kane Van Sickle.

The Speedmart 600 Open main event started with Ryley Mayer trying to build an advantage over the fast field of cars that chased him, including Peterson, Chance Crum and Evan Margeson. Peterson would move into second and began his pursuit of Mayer, closing on him by lap eight. On lap nine, Jared found the high side to his liking in turns one and two, but couldn’t get close enough to pull even on the backstretch with Mayer, who had good power and handling on the low side of the speedway. Trying again on lap ten. Peterson found the extra forward bite he was missing, pulling even with Mayer on the exit of turn two and making what would be the race winning pass down the back stretch. Peterson would work himself into an insurmountable lead, as Mayer dug for a runner up finish, racing hard to hold off Margeson who passed Crum later for third place.

In a very similar formula to how he won a Clay Cup prelim night, Clennon Holloway was masterful around the low side of the speedway in scoring the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 win. While Cal Herdson closed on the high side occasionally, Holloway was perfect in hitting his marks lap after lap around the bottom, leading all 25 laps of the main ahead of Cal and third place Chance Crum.

The finish of the night came in the NW Focus Midget feature. Shane Smith had led since lap two with Chance Crum hot on his heels for nearly every one of those laps. While Smith worked hard on the low side, Crum waited for his one shot to make a move up high. That shot came on lap 24, as Crum’s run from the top of turn two was enough to pull him even with Smith on the back straight. Rocketing through turn four, Crum led to the white flag with slower traffic directly in front of the pair AND Jared Peterson only a hair behind them in third. Crum would carry the top side of the track all the way around on the final lap, and the slower cars held their lines and speed, letting Chance grab the win just ahead of Smith and Peterson.

It was a wire to wire effort for Levi Kuntz in winning his second Mytrafficman.NET main event of the year. Kuntz came from the pole, and led all 25 laps with little challenge to take the win. Haley Constance ran a strong second and third went to Jesson Jacobson.

Kane Van Sickle not only completed a clean sweep, but did it with flair on Friday night in the Clean Crawls Junior Sprints. He was fast time, won his heat and passed McKenna Morgan with four laps to go to get the feature win and in the process, earned hard charger honors too. Morgan collected a career best second with Fairah Lee also collecting a career best finish in third.
