Mayer, Holmwood, Hillier and Wager Win at Deming Speedway

5/21/21

Everson, WA – Three repeat winners and one new winner graced victory lane at Deming Speedway on a sunny Friday night. Ryley Mayer won his second main of the year in the 600s, while Derek Holmwood took number four in the 1200s and Levi Hillier got number two in the restricted division. Braeden Wager was the lone new winner on the night, grabbing his first career JR Sprint win.

In the main event of the evening, Ryley Mayer made the perfect move in grabbing the lead and the win in the Speedmart 600 Open class. Starting 9th, Mayer methodically worked his way up the field, using the high side to advance into second place and into position to threaten Jeremy Holz. With Holz entering slower traffic, Mayer saw a chance to pin Holz to the low side behind a slower car and did so perfectly, using the slower car like an NBA style screen to give him a clear lane into the lead around the top of the track on lap 18. From there it was academic with Mayer taking the win ahead of Holz and Rachel Westmoreland. Mayer also won a heat, as did Haley Constance and Jayden Whitney.

It was another textbook Derek Holmwood win in the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 class. Holmwood took off from the outside of the front row and led all 25 laps, making a move to block a late low charge from Brock Lemley to secure the win. Brock would settle for second with Jared Gundersen. Heat winners were Holmwood and Seth Hespe.

For the second time on the season, Levi Hillier visited victory lane with the Mytrafficman.NET 600 Restricted division. Levi beat Kane Van Sickle to the bottom of turn three on the first lap and handled slower traffic like a veteran to secure the win. Van Sickle would get his best finish of his rookie year in second with Destry Miller taking third. Heat race wins went to Peyton Drake, Carson Guffie and Miller.

Braeden Wager won his first career main event in the Clean Crawls JR Sprints. Wager took the lead on lap three and was unchallenged in his charge toward victory lane. McKenna Morgan and Brooklyn Constance joined him on the podium. Constance and Medcalf won the heats.
