Klatt Holds off Lemley for 1200 Win at Deming Speedway

4/28/23

Everson, WA – 100 cars graced the pit area for a sunny Friday night at Deming Speedway. For the first time in his career, Levi Klatt took the win in the main event for the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 class in an entertaining contest. Joining him in victory lane were Colin Mackey, Jared Peterson, Cooper Anderson, and Drake Wiersma.

Getting your first feature win in the 1200 class is a feat unto itself, but holding off Brock Lemley to do it adds special significance. Levi Klatt took the lead from Terry Lewis on lap two and held off Brock for the final 15 laps of the main, turning away multiple slide job attempts en route to his first win. Lemley would settle for second place (after winning the first two mains of the year) and Tyson Cross was third. Derek Holmwood, Alex Lewis and Brock won the heats.

In a race that flashed by in the blink of an eye, Colin Mackey went wire to wire for the win in the Speedmart 600 Open division. Taking to the high side on the initial start, Mackey would cruise to the victory virtually unchallenged for his first win of 2023. Levi Kuntz and Spencer Constance rounded out the podium. Dakota Drake, Tyler McLeod and Carson Guffie won the heat races.

A late race restart made all the difference in the NW Focus Midgets main event. Shane Smith controlled the first 20 laps of the feature, but a Delaware style restart gave Jared Peterson a lane around the top side of the track that he would make full use of, rocketing around Smith for the race winning pass in the Inlaws Racing #32. Smith and Nick Evans rounded out the podium. Heat race wins went to Peterson, Sawyer Lind and Chuck Pierce.

A chaotic Mytrafficman.NET main event ended with Cooper Anderson taking his first career win in the class. Sawyer Baxter led the first twenty laps before Anderson made his way to challenge him as the pair closed in on lap 20. Coming off the bottom of turn four to the line on lap 21, the pair made contact, with both saving their cars from further wreckage and driving away. Anderson took over the lead entering turn one and never looked back in grabbing his first win. Dustin Ramsey passed Baxter late for second place, moving Sawyer to third. Jayce Medcalf, Zoey Tupper and Avery Askvig were the heat race winners.

For the second time on the season, Drake Wiersma won the main event for the Capstone Plastering JR Sprints. Kellen Vonthenen held the lead for the first ten laps before tangling with traffic, giving Wiersma the opportunity he needed to take the lead on the back straightaway. Vonthenen would rally to threaten Wiersma late, but in the end, Drake took his second win ahead of Kellen and Kinley Askvig. Heat winners were Kaden Riese, Vonthenen and Askvig.
