Greene, Holmwood, Askvig & Johnson Win on Opening Night

4/5/24

Everson, WA – Opening night at Deming Speedway presented by Stremler Gravel and Sierra Pacific Industries saw 92 cars competing over four divisions. As the cold settled in and the dust settled down, David Greene, Derek Holmwood, Avery Askvig and Hudson Johnson drove their way to victory lane.

Greene made his debut as a full time Speedmart 600 division driver a successful one as he led all 25 laps of the feature to score his first win. Both Macie Logsdon and Levi Hillier closed on him at times but Green held serve the whole way for the win ahead of Levi and Macie. Greene also won his heat race, as did Dakota Drake and Kyle Johnson.

A caution on the initial start of the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 main elevated Derek Holmwood to the outside of row number one. Holmwood took full advantage and would lead every lap of the main event for the opening night victory with Seth Hespe a tight second for most of the way. Brock Lemley earned the final spot on the podium. Tyson Cross, Parker Hadlock, Austin Edson and Jared Gudnersen won the heats for the 22 car field.

Action was tight in the Doyle Guffie’s Rallye Auto Sales 600 Restricted class. Avery Askvig led the whole way with Clayton Jalakas close to her as the pair raced to the white flag. Going into turn three on what was thought to be the final lap, the pair made contact and both spun, but neither actually stopped on the track. An inadvertent yellow flag was thrown, and both drivers were given their spots back to try for the win one more time. On the restart, Jalakas attempted a run around the top but Askvig was too smooth down low and rode to the win. Following Askvig and Jalakas to the podium was Hunter Cook. Wins in the heat races went to Jayce Medcalf, Samantha Fraser, Emma Chorney and Mallory Favaro.

Opening night for the Capstone Plastering JR Sprints saw a huge field of veterans rookies competing in the main event. In the end, Hudson Johnson looked dominant, leading every lap without challenge for the victory. Aiden Stone got a career best second while Owen Hill battled hard for third. Heat winners were Lennen Peters, Johnson, Stone and Madi Hoppe.
