Emotional Win for Mayer at Deming Speedway

6/17/22

Everson, WA – While Mother Nature tried to ruin another race night at Deming Speedway, but on this Friday night, perhaps another force had bigger plans. Just mere days after losing his father John to esophageal cancer at the age of 51, Ryley Mayer ran the race of his life in leading all 25 laps of the Speedmart 600 Open main event for the win.

Flanked by a huge contingent of family and friends in Victory Lane, Mayer described the emotions as he worked through his day and race night. Saying that he had his ”stomach in knots”, Ryley came out and honored his late father with an easy win in his heat race and the wire to wire win, never taking a serious challenge for the top spot. Parker Hadlock and Jayden Whitney rounded out the podium. Jesse Schlotfeldt won the other heat race.

Derek Holmwood took full advantage of his front row starting spot, tallying another win in the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 class. Holmwood led every lap of the main, topping the podium that consisted of runner up Jacob Buckenmeyer and third place Seth Hespe. Holmwood and Hespe won the heats.

Levi Harless and Jeff Westergard gave the fans an exciting race out in front of the NW Focus Midget main event. Harless ended up scoring the win, with Westergard taking second after running right on Levi’s tail for most of the feature. Jake Munn took third. Harless swept the night by winning the heat race.

Heavy track conditions favored Levi Hillier who went wire to wire for another win in the Mytrafficman.NET 600 Restricted class. Hillier led every lap of the main event comfortably over  eventual runner up Mallory Fisher and Peyton Drake. Drake, Hillier and Hayden Cook were the heat winners.

Heartbreak for Chase Whitney turned into joy for Cooper Anderson, who won his second feature of the season. Whitney led 19 and ⅞ of a lap before making the wrong choice in slower traffic coming through the final corner, giving Anderson just enough room to squeak by for the win. Colton Knapp ended up third. Knapp and McKenna Morgan won the heats.
