Everson, WA – At Deming Speedway, we’ve had siblings win on the same night a few times, but it’s been a few years since we’ve had an Uncle and Nephew take wins on the same night. That changed on Friday, as on NAPA Auto Parts / Bob Hillier Trucking / CRE night, Nate Vaughn won the 1200 main event after his nephew Kole Campbell scored the win in the JR Sprints. Joining the pair in victory lane were Levi Hillier, Jared Peterson and McKenna Morgan.
Vaughn capped off the family’s winning night with a dominant performance in the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 class. He led every lap of the main with little challenge, being the first driver to find great drive on the bottom of turn two and rolling away to an easy looking win. The race far behind him for second was good, with Seth Hespe and Kyle Mitchell going hard for the runner up position. At the checkered flag it was Mitchell in the runner up spot and Hespe rounding out the podium.
In the Speedmart 600 division, Levi Hillier went wire to wire for his second win of the year. Levi had Spencer Constance roll up on him late in traffic, but a late caution got him out of trouble and into victory lane. Constance claimed second for the third time on the year with Colin Mackey taking third.
The race at the front of the NW Focus Midgets A Main was one of the best in recent years. Shane Smith and Jared Peterson duked it out at the front of the field from about lap seven on, with Smith consistently swapping lines to keep Peterson guessing at where he would find track to try and make a pass. In the late stages of the race, Peterson got enough of a run heading into turn three to short slide Smith and break his momentum just enough on the following lap to make the race winning pass coming to the line on the 23rd circuit. The final top three was Peterson, Smith and Alex Peck.
McKenna Morgan now has two feature wins at Deming Speedway on the year, taking home top honors in the Doyle Guffie’s Rallye Auto Sales 600 Restricted class this week. Second and third place went to Chase Jensen and Colton Knapp respectively.
Kole Campbell became the first repeat winner of the year in the Capstone Plastering JR Sprints, going back to back weeks with wins in the class after leading all 25 main event laps. Delilah Stermer was second with Lucas Fisher running third.
